At first glance, writing for children may seem like a task of simplifying language or telling whimsical tales, but in reality, it is much more than that. It is a journey back to joy, a reminder to embrace life with curiosity and kindness, and a way to rediscover the hope that resides within us.
Unlike visuals, which engage the cognitive processing centres of the brain, sounds directly stimulate the limbic system, the seat of emotions and memory.
Neuroscience confirms this: specific sounds trigger specific neural pathways, evoking feelings of joy, fear, nostalgia, and everything in between.
Then, I dove into Instagram Stories – the ones where people hold their phone way too close to their face, sigh dramatically, and say, “Okay, so here’s the deal…”
That’s where the truth lives.
People spill their unfiltered thoughts in Stories, comments, and tweets. They don’t hold back. What frustrates them? What excites them? What makes them rant to their best friend on WhatsApp? That’s the gold.
Music’s power lies in its components – the tempo, rhythm, melody, and lyrics. A lively tempo can invigorate, a slow rhythm can soothe, and minor keys can stir contemplation. Keeping these small things in mind can help you set the stage for creating playlists that resonate with your current mood.

When my creativity decides to take an unscheduled vacation, I dive into my past works. Reading the copies that once made me puff my chest in pride reminds me: “Hey, I did that, and I can do it again.” It’s like conversing with a more confident version of myself who says,
If you ask me, it’s emotions and experiences. While ChatGPT uses an incredible amount of data to bring you the content you need, a writer uses their heart and mind – something that no machine could ever replace.
In the end, it all boiled down to – winning over their concerns with my conviction. But, what also got me through this phase was knowing the fact that my parents have been through the same ups and downs. They’ve weathered the strongest winds and their experience is what can guide me.
Words are great. But the absence of words is great too. I learnt the basics of Indian Sign Language (ISL) as an experiment. I wanted to understand how it all works. How does the grammar work? How are expressions conveyed? I learnt that sign language is a dance of expression.
