Aesthetic Is Cool, But Does It Say Anything?

Aesthetic Is Cool, But Does It Say Anything?

We’ve all fallen for it  the feed that’s too pretty. That pastel-filtered, neatly spaced, thoughtfully curated aesthetic that makes you want to hit follow without even reading the bio. But then, five posts in, you realise… you’re not really feeling anything. It’s cute, sure. But what is it saying?

Aesthetic is powerful. There’s no denying that. The way something looks can pull people in instantly. But if that’s all it’s doing if there’s no meaning behind the moodboards and colour palettes people lose interest fast. It’s kind of like packaging a book beautifully but forgetting to write a good story inside.

We live in a visual world, and Gen Z especially has a good eye for detail. We love clean design, we love branding that feels intentional. But when that’s all there is  when your content feels like it was made just to match a theme  we start to scroll past. Because it’s not enough to look good. Your content has to feel good too.

That feeling doesn’t come from fancy filters or matching fonts. It comes from words that make sense, ideas that matter, and a voice that knows what it stands for. You don’t have to be poetic or deep just honest. We want to know there’s someone behind the post who has something to say. Something to offer beyond visuals.

Brands that know how to balance aesthetic with authenticity are the ones that last. The ones that know when to post a beautiful flat lay and when to say something that sits with you for the rest of the day. Because yes, the scroll is fast  but a good line, a real thought, an unexpected truth? That lingers.

There’s also something super powerful about being slightly less polished sometimes. Not messy  but honest. When a brand isn’t afraid to break their own grid to say something urgent, or use a candid moment instead of a curated one  that kind of choice makes you lean in. It reminds you this is still a human-led space, not just a  content machine.

If your aesthetic isn’t letting you speak, it’s time to rethink the layout. If your captions feel like placeholders, ask yourself what you’d actually say if you were talking to your audience in person. What would you sound like then? That’s the voice people want to hear. That’s the voice they’ll connect with.

Because the truth is there are a million aesthetic brands out there. But the ones we remember? They say something. They make us feel something. And they know how to let their content be beautiful and brave at the same time.

So yes, make it aesthetic. Make it visually pleasing, soft, clean, whatever your vibe is. But don’t stop there. Make it thoughtful. Make it intentional. Make it speak. Because when it does, that’s when people truly stop  not just to admire, but to listen.

How to write a smashing ad film?

Every idea-based ad has a story. These are ads that feel like mini-films. You watch because you are curious to know how it ends. The “big idea” drives the entire execution. What makes them work is curiosity and payoff. You lean in, waiting for the punchline, the reveal, the resolution.
