Empathy Isn’t Optional Anymore Especially for Gen Z

Be kind to everyone

If there’s one thing we, as Gen Z, can spot from a mile away, it’s fake warmth.

We’ve grown up in an age where information is everywhere, where everything looks perfect online, and where people are constantly selling us something. It’s overwhelming, honestly. And because of that, what truly stands out today isn’t more noise. It’s something quieter: real intention. The kind that doesn’t feel forced or fake, but genuinely human.

Empathy? It’s not just nice to have anymore. It’s the bare minimum.

We’re not here for hustle culture.

A few years ago, “rise and grind” posts might’ve given us a sense of motivation. But now? It feels out of touch. We’re talking about burnout, about taking care of our mental health, about knowing when to set boundaries. We’re the generation that says rest is as important as the grind. So when content pushes endless productivity, or makes hustle the only thing that matters, it just doesn’t resonate anymore. We want empathy in the content we consume  and that means recognizing when it’s okay to take a break.

Inclusion matters, but we notice when it’s just for show.

We’re tired of the surface-level gestures. Throwing up a rainbow flag or reposting a quote on Women’s Day doesn’t cut it anymore. Real inclusion is everyday  it’s in the language you use, the stories you tell, and the voices you amplify. It’s in not assuming someone’s identity, their background, or their body. We want to see our experiences reflected in your content, not just for a special occasion, but all the time.

We don’t just want to be “targeted.” We want to be seen.

We’re okay with being part of an audience, but treat us like we’re human, not just a data point. It’s not enough to just say the right things it’s about how you say them. Are you speaking with us, or just at us? Are you adding value, or just trying to chase the next viral moment? The difference is huge. And we notice it.

The Bottom Line? Empathy isn’t just soft and fluffy. It’s strategic.

Because when you understand where we’re coming from, we trust you. And when we trust you? We listen. And in a world that’s loud, that kind of connection? That’s worth its weight in gold.

How strange it is to be anything at all

How strange it is to be anything at all

You have felt it before. Not in loud, climactic moments, but in the gentle ones. Like sitting alone after a long day. Or staring at your reflection and realising you have aged, but also that you have been here all along, watching your life happen from inside this strange, breakable body.
“How strange it is to be anything at all.”
